I. Welcome and Introductions to Determine Quorum

Quorum was established and meeting was begun at 10:00 a.m.

II. Courts Resurfacing – Several Locations

The following locations will be having their tennis courts resurfaced during the coming season - Mulholland, Cheviot Hills, and Mountaingate. The board asks that all captains be flexible in switching home/away matches when this occurs.

III. Treasurer’s Report

The league has a cash balance of $22, 561. The income from the Intents is used to pay for captains’ meetings, AGC meetings, trophies, printing expenses, website fee and captains’ folders. The annual Awards Luncheon pays for itself.

III. Luncheon Report

Becky announced that the next Awards Luncheon will be on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Skirball Cultural Center. The WTL chooses a local charity to support each year and we are in the process of vetting some of them. At the luncheon, we have vendors selling items for purchase. This vendor income helps pay for the luncheon. Every club must have a Luncheon representative who is responsible for doing the preparation, usually a day before the luncheon, and working a 1.5 hour shift on the day of the luncheon.

IV. Social Events

There will be a Multi-Level Round Robin during the winter break. We will combine D2 & D4 players, and D3 & D5 players for whoever is interested in playing. Clubs that have already offered their courts are LATC, Mulholland and Mountaingate. One captain asked if it could just be an Open Invitational instead and that is a possibility.

There will be a Mahjong Tournament sometime in late January for those interested. Laurie Rosenthal volunteered to teach women the beginner’s workshop in early January.

Martin Parkes (tennis director at Pepperdine) is doing an educational speaking engagement with Allistair McCaw on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at LATC. The information on this can be found on our website. The WTL is planning a series of speaking engagements during the season.

The WTL may host a Mixed Doubles Round Robin in the future.

V. Review of Rules

Patty Lombard used a Power Point presentation to show the captains how to find information on the website such as Rules, Stats, Locations, and League Info. She also showed how to access and print the scoresheet. Order of Strength was also reviewed. Warm-up protocol was reviewed and it was recommended that if the opponents request a warm-up with your team, you are obligated to do so for a minimum of 10 minutes. This would require doing it prior to 9:30 a.m. so everyone is ready to start playing at 9:30 a.m. It was suggested that players be ready to warm up with their opponents at 9:15 a.m. If players do not arrive at the club by 9:30 a.m., they will forfeit the first set. If they arrive after 9:45 a.m., they will forfeit the match.

Becky Prange reviewed the Coman Tiebreak which will be implemented this season.

Barbara Garner recommended looking at “Tennis Rules We May Not Know” that can be found in the Message Center.

VI. Other

Rosters will be closed on September 4th at 9:00 p.m. PST
There must be a minimum of 6 line players and a maximum of 8
First day of play will be September 12th
September 16, 2018 – speaking engagement at LATC
Nov 1-3 – first roster change period
Jan 3-5 – second roster change period
Apr 30-May 2 – third roster change period

Having no more business to discuss, meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted
Barbara Garner – Secretary/Treasurer
